What's in a Shave?
/WHATS IN A SHAVE?
Have you ever experienced a shave with a hot towel in the barbershop? If you said “Yes,” then you know what it’s all about and are hopefully looking forward to your next barbershop shave. If you said “No,” then keep reading for you do not know what you’re missing.
On average, I perform between three and four faces shaves each day.
The process starts with setting the gentleman back in the chair, properly draped with two towels to protect the head and shirt. A warm shaving lather is applied to the face and the gentleman receives the first of two hot towels. This opens the pores and softens the beard.
While the gentleman relaxes in the chair with the hot towel, the barber sets up for the shave. A new blade is loaded into the straight razor and the two shaving creams are prepared.
I use a cold coconut based cream to soften the skin and a warm shaving lather to lift the whiskers.
Once the shaving cream is applied, it is time to shave.
The skin is stretched to ensure a smooth surface for the blade to run. There are fourteen different steps and positions used during a typical face shave.
After the shaving is complete a second hot towel is applied to the gentleman’s face.
Lastly, aftershave, powder, and a shave balm are applied to close the pores and finish the shave. The gentlemen sits up feeling refreshed, relaxed, and clean.
In addition to face shaves and beard trims, Carey’s Avenue Barber Shop also offers head shaves.
Stop in for a shave, you’ll be glad you did.
Cheers,
Dan
